Airbus A330-200 Final Surface Roughness Study Data Collection

In a continuation of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) research to determine acceptable limits for in-service airport pavement roughness, the FAA Roughness Airbus A330-200 Study was conducted in March, May, and September of 2015 using the FAA Airbus A330-200 flight simulator at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Twenty-five pilots participated in the study over twelve test sessions. Subjective pilot ratings of pavement roughness and objective measures of cockpit accelerations were collected for all sessions. A data analysis was performed to correlate the pilot ratings with cockpit accelerations.

Cherokee CRC, LLC was tasked to develop a subjective rating scale in the form of a questionnaire and to modify the roughness model in the Airbus A330-200 simulator at the FAA Flight Standards Flight Operation Simulation Laboratory (AFS-440) located at the MMAC. This report details the Airbus A330-200 Surface Roughness Study Data Collection.
