CC7 South Test Objective

CC7 South Test Objective

The objective of the overload test was to determine an allowable overload criteria for flexible pavements.  Although the current ICAO overload criteria represent a “reasonable balance between operational flexibility and the need to avoid undue damage to pavements,” (Defence Estates 2011) they are still somewhat conservative and unsupported by empirical data.  Ideally, allowable overload criteria would be linked to the cumulative damage factor (CDF), which would then allow individual overloads to be related to consumed life.  Therefore, criteria both in terms of the percent by which the ACN of the overloading gear exceeds the PCN of the pavement, or alternatively, the used pavement life expressed as cumulative damage factor (CDF), were considered in full-scale tests.
