National Airport Pavement Test Facility

At this state-of-the-art, full-scale pavement test facility, ATR researchers conduct full-scale, accelerated pavement testing (APT) on concrete and asphalt pavement structures. The National Airport Pavement Test Facility is comprised of two primary testing areas – the National Airport Pavement Test Vehicle, which simulates pressure exerted on runways from aircraft traffic, and the Reflective Cracking Rig, which simulates reflective cracking due to temperature changes to pavement.

It is the only facility in the world to have this level of research capability. By testing for structural failure in pavements and conducting forensic analyses, ATR’s research has resulted in an estimated $10B savings in upgrades to airport runways.
