Construction Cycle 2

Construction Cycle 2 (CC2)

Construction Cycle 2 (CC2) was a full-scale experiment conducted at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Airport Pavement Test Facility (NAPTF) specifically evaluating the factors impacting rigid pavements. CC2 consisted of 5 different experimental components:

Phase I Experimental Test Strip

Study the effects of PCC slab size and mix design on rigid pavement curling.

Phase II Single Slab

Develop guidance and procedures for the design, placement, and monitoring of rigid pavements.

Phase III Twin Slab

Research to study the effects of binary cementitious blends comparing the use of traditional PCC and PCC with high fly ash content.

Phase IV Test Items

Evaluate the impacts of pavement sublayers on rigid pavement performance.

Phase V HMA Overlay

Assess the performance of rubblized concrete pavement as an airfield HMA unbound granular base material.
