Teflon Lamp Tests

Teflon coating of 500 watt PAR-56 approach lamps has been proposed to reduce lamp failures. In order to determine the effectiveness of the Teflon coating, lamps were subjected to test required by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) specification FAA-E-2408a LAMPS, PAR-56 INCANDESCENT AVIATION SERVICE, The sand and dust tests were the only tests which caused physical damage to the lamps, All lamps achieved the minimum photometric test values except one dust test lamp and one sand test lamp. The three new lamps tested had maximum values greater than the 55,000 candelas specified.
