Invited Speaker

Dr. Garg Presenting Dr. Navneet Garg of the Airport Technology Research and Development (ATR) branch attended and participated in the 2nd RILEM International Symposium on Bituminous Materials (ISBM 2026) in Padua, Italy on June 16-18, 2026.

RILEM ISBM 2026 is a major international forum for research on pavement materials and attracts leading researchers, practicing engineers, and other professionals. More than 300 participants from 30 nations gathered for the conference. Dr. Garg was an invited speaker and presented "Recent Advances in Airport Asphalt Materials and Pavements: A Summary of FAA Research" based on FAA airport pavement research at the National Airport Pavement & Materials Research Center (NAPMRC) and National Airport Pavement Test Facility (NAPTF).

Dr. Garg also conducted a joint airport pavement design and evaluation workshop with Dr. Michael Broutin from the Directorate General for Civil Aviation-French Civil Aviation Center (DGAC/STAC), France. The workshop was attended by 50 participants from ten countries (Italy, France, Switzerland, Brazil, Belgium, India, Netherlands, USA, Poland, Serbia, and Colombia).

This travel directly supported FAA’s goal of global leadership and technical innovation in airport technology. Participation in RILEM ISBM 2026 was a unique opportunity for the FAA to highlight its leading role in innovating advanced technologies to improve airport safety and reduce lifecycle costs.
